At the age of eight living next to the Lake Oswego Hunt Club, I knew animals were always going to be part of my life, especially horses. Coming from a large family I knew if I wanted to take riding lessons or some day own a horse I needed to come up with a plan to help pay for my passion.

My first job was “hot walking” polo ponies in between chukkers for polo players in the late sixties for 50 cents a horse. Once I mastered walking four horses at a time I knew I had become a “professional”.

After graduation from Portland State University I knew early on I wanted to someday own my own business. Working in the corporate world of sales I enjoyed selling and meeting all the wonderful people in my travels. The only missing link was how could I incorporate my love for animals?

Opportunity came knocking. My veterinarian mentioned he was going to sell his building on Stafford Road and relocate his business to a larger facility. After two years of research and planning AJ’s Stafford Feed & Pet Supplies we were so excited to finally open our doors on May 17, 2001.

In 2021 we celebrated our twenty-year anniversary. Building a business from the ground up, using every dime including the ones I found on the street, lifting bags of grain until I could not possibility lift another has brought me to a very special place. A place where I can talk about horses, what organic feed is best for your baby chicks, birdseed varieties and recommend what product to use on your dog that just received a direct hit from the neighborhood skunk.

I am in a place that I love. I am grateful for the support of family, kindness of friends and to my customers who truly inspire me to offer the best product lines and services, and be a valued member of our wonderful community.
